Distinguished Gentleman's Neck Warmer Modifications

I decided to make this neck warmer for my father for when he rides his motorcycle in the winter. Unfortunately I didn't have a 16" size 7 circular needles and magic loop wasn't working for me, so I decided to knit it flat:

*Cast on 94 stitches
*Knit 4 rows
*Work pattern of RS/WS rows until entire neck warmer measures 6 1/2" ending after RS row
-RS:          K1*K2, YO, K2TOG* K1
-WS:         P1*P2TOG, YO, P2* P1
*Next row work K2*K2TOG, K2* around
*Knit 3 rows
*Bind off loosly,  sew edges together, and lightly block

I made it larger so it could cover the mouth and nose.

Doctor Who Scarf - Series 6, AKA: "A Christmas Carol" Scarf

With the first of June, a fresh start to Nerd Wars has begun! I decided to do a dissertation this time for Tournament 2:

Doctor Who Scarf - Series 6

This scarf was only featured momentarily in "A Christmas Carol," but attracted the attention to many Doctor Who fans, especially knitters who were familiar with the "Tom Baker Scarves."

Unfortunately we are unable to see the entire scarf, so I would assume that there will eventually be different variations for the ends of the scarf. Here is what I am planning:

*5 skeins Knit Picks Swish DK in Garnet Heather
*4 skins Knit Picks Swish DK in Grain Heather (I just learned this will be discontinued)
*3 skeins Knit Picks Swish DK in Dove Heather
*size 5 knitting needles

(It was an estimate on the amount of yarn- I will have plenty left over)

Scarf Layout
I casted on 40 stitches which gave me a width of 7 inches.

Garnet 72 rows
Dove 20 rows
Grain 72 rows
Dove 20 rows
Garnet 72 rows
Dove 20 rows
Grain 72 rows
Dove 20 rows
Garnet 72 rows
Dove 20 rows
Grain 72 rows

Garnet 72 rows
Dove 20 rows
Grain 72 rows
Dove 20 rows
Garnet 72 rows
Dove 20 rows
Grain 72 rows
Dove 20 rows
Garnet 27 rows

For a total of 992 rows and an approximate length of just under 8.25 feet before blocking.
Tassels optional and enjoy!

Nerd Wars Tournament 1 is Finished

So Nerd Wars is this crazy contest on Ravelry where different nerddoms compete in challenges (6 per month for 3 months) for bragging rights. I went a little crazy and submitted projects for all of the challenges, including my first pair of knitted socks and my first cardigan. Now that it's over, I'm missing that high of being competitive.

Luckily, I can now start on some non nerdy projects and maybe finish up some WIP's (works in progress).  I started my Daybreak Shawl in the lovely SweetGeorgia Merino Silk DK Tourmaline (blue-green color) despite the skein having 5 knots in it. I contacted SweetGeorgia and the customer service was great! And the color looks lovely with Madelinetosh Tosh Merino Light Brother's Grimm (dark green/black). My WIP's that I want to focus on include some spinning and my season 15 Doctor Who scarf.

NON CRAFTING NEWS

Alex and I are caught up on Bones and have been watching Mythbusters on Netflix even though we've already seen most of the episodes. After he beat Portal 2 single player and co-op with Jared, we've been trying to find another show to catch our interest. Well, besides our normal shows: Monday- How I Met Your Mother, Tuesday- Glee (guilty pleasure), Wednesday- America's Next Top Model, Thursday- Big Bang Theory, Bones, and Outsourced, Friday- ???, Saturday- DOCTOR WHO, Sunday- America's Most Wanted. I think we watch too much TV...

And I finally picked up Naked Empire again. It has nothing to do with the novel, it's just the timing of everything... again. Yes, I did the same thing I did last year, only this year was worse.

First Time Blogging!

Not really, but this is the first time for something other than my daily life. I plan on using this site to post designs and projects of the crafts I do. For those who crochet/knit I am on Ravelry. For friends and family, you know where to find me.
